Welcome to the professional development opportunities offered by the ESC of Lake Erie West. We hope you find opportunities to enhance your professional skills.

All of the workshops offered by the ESC of Lake Erie West have been aligned with the Ohio Standards for Professional Development. Contact hour certificates will be provided to participants at the end of each session for submission to their local LPDC.

ESC staff can provide customized professional development and consultation that can be scheduled around “late starts”; teacher meetings, grade level team gatherings or other requested configurations. Our Conference Center is also available to host professional development opportunities.

Conference Center

The Conference Center provides meeting rooms, large or small, for groups of 10 to 170 attendees. A large suite of meeting spaces can be combined into one large space or divided into three separate areas to accommodate large groups in a variety of setups. Additional meeting rooms are available for private breakout sessions, or smaller meetings.

Each meeting space is equipped with a serving area counter and is located near a vending machine area. Free video monitored parking, an accessible entrance and registration center are additional features of the Conference Center.

This Conference Center is equipped with state-of-the-art multimedia technology with the ability to have remote video and audio full room conferencing.

Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES)

Dates: September 11, 12, & 13, 2017

Time: Registration begins at 8:00 AM. Training starts at 8:30 and will end by 3:30 each day.

Location: ESC of Lake Erie West, 2275 Collingwood Blvd., Toledo, OH 43620

Cost: $250  Fee is payable to ESC of Lake Erie West and includes lunch and instructional materials. Registration is not complete until fees are paid. Please send check for $250 payable to ESC of Lake Erie West to ESC of Lake Erie West, Attn: Elaine Robinson, 2275 Collingwood Blvd., Toledo, OH 43620. Please indicate on check the name of the person registered for the training.

Attendance at all three days of the training is required in order to gain access to the online credentialing assessment.

Ohio School Counselor Evaluation System (OSCES)

Date:  September 13, 2017 and September 28, 2017

It is highly recommended that the evaluator and school counselor attend this session together.

Time: Registration will begin at 8:00 with each session scheduled to start at 8:30 and end no later than 3:30. 

Location: All training sessions will take place at the ESC of Lake Erie West, 2275 Collingwood, Toledo, OH 43620.  

Cost: $100  Fee is payable to ESC of Lake Erie West and includes lunch and instructional materials. Registration is not complete until fees are paid. Ohio Principal Evaluation System (OPES)

Dates: October 3 & 4, 2017

Time: Registration begins at 8:00 AM. Training starts at 8:30 and will end by 3:30 each day.

eTPES Training

Resident Educator Mentor Training

Resident Educator Mentor Academy Day 1 and Resident Educator Mentor Academy Day 2 is tentatively scheduled for the dates below pending action by the state legislature. Registration will be through STARS and will be available in July 2017.  Day 1 is a prerequisite for Day 2.  Both days must be completed in order to become a certified mentor. All trainings will be held in Toledo, OH.

  • August 29 & 30, 2017
  • September 11 & 12, 2017
  • October 3 & 4, 2017
  • October 17 & 18, 2017

The cost for mentor training is $85 per day or $170 for the two days of training.

Registration is through STARS. When you log into STARS to register, you should search for the keywords of RE Mentor Academy 1 and RE Mentor Academy 2 or simply search for the keyword RE. Participants must register for each session individually.

Gifted Education

The Cognitive Rigor Matrix Impacting Student Outcomes Presented by Karin Hess

Karin Hess is a recognized international leader in developing practical approaches for using cognitive rigor and learning progressions as the foundation for formative, interim, and performance assessments. She specializes in providing educators with research-based models for effective instruction and assessment that move students towards greater engagement and deeper learning. Her presentation will focus on using the Cognitive Rigor Matrix to improve student outcomes.

Information:

  • Target Audience:
  •  School and district administrators who focus on curriculum and assessment
  • General education teachers who are trying to get the 30 hours of professional development required by the new Ohio Gifted Operating Standards;
  • Gifted Teachers
  • Any teacher who wants to learn more about the Cognitive Rigor Matrix
  • August 7, 2017 or August 8, 2017 at the ESC of Lake Erie West, 2275 Collingwood Blvd., Toledo, OH 43620 (same presentation each day)
  • Training will start promptly at 8:00. Registration will begin at 7:30. Training will end at 3:30.
  • A certificate for 7.5 contact hours will be provided to all participants. This PD will meet the core competencies outlined in Ohio's Gifted Operating Standards.
  • The cost for staff from member districts and sponsored community schools is $50 per person. The cost for non-member districts is $80 per person. Member Districts are Anthony Wayne, Maumee, Oregon, Ottawa Hills, Perrysburg, Rossford, Springfield, Sylvania, and Washington Local.
  • Registration fee includes lunch and all materials.
